Pobol Peblig: Community partnership

The Communities First Partnership in Peblig, Caernarfon (AKA Pobol Peblig) is a partnership of residents who run development projects in the community: The members decide what they want, then go ahead and do it. The website needed to reflect this dynamic, helping with communication between volunteers, publicity of events, meetings and activities, sharing resources and ideas, as well as promoting their projects to a wider audience.
Communities First is a program to help and support disadvantaged communities with an emphasis on community participation and sustainable development.
In all the Pobol Peblig projects the focus is on building skills, experience, knowledge and confidence of the community members. The website project was no different. The staff team were involved at every stage of the design and build, through to the final handover stages.
Easy to update
Using the Joomla content management system, the site is easily updated whatever the internet experience of the contributor. We are currently running training/mentoring sessions to ensure the staff are confident to take over the running of the website, ensuring the site becomes an integral part of the community projects, for communication, publicity and as a pool of resources
Easy to use (accessible)
The site should be accessible to a wide range of internet users. It is currently going through the final stages of the RNIB See It Right Audit, which ensure that the site will have a high degree of accessibility for people with disabilities. Staff at Peblig are also being trained on how to update the website accessibility.
